Syros Pharmaceuticals is a development stage biopharmaceutical company pioneering the understanding of the non-coding region of the genome to advance a new wave of medicines that control expression of disease-driving genes. Syros has built a proprietary platform to systematically and efficiently analyze this unexploited region of DNA in human disease tissue to identify and drug novel targets linked to genomically defined patient populations. Syros is focused on cancer, immune-oncology, and rare genetic disease and is advancing a growing pipeline, including its lead drug candidates SY-1425, a selective RARα agonist for genomically defined subsets of currently in phase II, for a range of cancers including acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome, and SY-1365, a selective CDK7 inhibitor for ovarian and HR+ breast cancer currently advancing through phase I. Led by a team with deep experience in drug discovery, development and commercialization, Syros is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking an Associate Director of Corporate Development to assist in multiple aspects of the Business Development and Strategy functions. S/he will be primarily focused on sell-side BD, including landscaping for potential strategic partners, outreach, pitch, deal structuring, and contract negotiation. S/he will also assist in building BD strategy and occasionally focus on in-licensing of technologies or assets. The successful candidate should also have interest in a range of additional responsibilities that include alliance management, competitive landscaping and strategic planning. The individual should enjoy working in a fast-paced and rapidly growing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Business Development - Landscape for potential partners that could be a strategic fit with Syros platform and assets.
  • Aid in the development of a pitch deck together with R&D.
  • Assist with engagement of potential partners and manage the deal relationship
  • Assist in contract negotiations
• Strategic BD - Work with the executive team to assist in the development and deployment of overall partnering strategy
• Competitive intelligence - Assist the team with performing landscape surveillance of competitive opportunities with Syros programs, platform and business approach.
• Alliance Management - Ensure diligent alliance management of executed deals by managing Syros' obligations under the contract
  • Manage internal research teams
  • Manage expected milestones for planning

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong preference for scientific background in life sciences; PhD/MD is an advantage
• Minimum 2 to 3 years of sell-side BD or BD role in a startup Biotech; divestitures or out-licensing in pharmaceutical/biotech business development. Candidates from top-tier investment banking, consulting, VC or healthcare equity analysis will also be considered.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others
• Experience in strategic evaluations, due diligence, and contract negotiations of partnership agreements required
• Strong analytical skills and broad business understanding of the pharmaceutical business and R&D process
• Knowledge of financial modeling
• Ability to work in a dynamic, start-up environment
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work productively in a team environment
• Well organized and detail oriented
• Self-starter who can work autonomously
• Ability to travel as business requires
